IMMIGRATION

I received this letter from a woman who is very upset about the benefits given to illegal aliens in our country. She wrote:

I think everyone can understand why she is "angry, sad, and distraught". I have to totally agree with her sentiments. Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado and Oklahoma, all of our surrounding states, have stricter immigration laws than Kansas. Kansas is currently a sanctuary state where those who have entered our country illegally are encouraged to come because we offer benefits to illegal immigrants that are even better than our own citizens can receive. We simply must correct this situation. As your State Representative I will work to strengthen our immigration laws. I will not support giving benefits to those who are in our state illegally.
"What I found has made me very angry, sad, and distraught. This is just not fair!

My husband has health insurance through his work, for which it cost him nothing to participate (it would be about $200 /month for me) and all my kids are covered by KS Medicaid. I am the only member of my family without health care coverage so I use clinics or the health department when I need care. I recently participated in a low income plan through the Leavenworth County Health Department/KU Med to deliver my last baby. I am to pay $80 monthly for 12 months for the prenatal care and delivery I received from residents at KU Med and staff at the health department. That is only $960 for everything compared to about $3200 that we paid out of pocket for our previous baby. I think that we got a really good deal and I am happy with the services I received.

Only one thing really bothers me though as I reach my 6th payment. In my booklet, there is a page inserted between the 5th and 6th payment coupons that says "You have been pre-qualified for S.O.B.R.A. You may stop making payments at this time." and some further contact info. I looked online at the Kansas SRS website to check for info on this program and what I found has made me very angry, sad, and distraught. This program, which must be paid for with state funds since it is offered through Kansas SRS, only covers pregnant women "who do not meet citizen eligibility requirements." Non citizens pay $560 less than I will have to pay. How can this be? I am so frustrated with illegal immigrants getting better treatment (health care and otherwise) than working class families struggling to make it in this unpredictable economy.

This is just not fair! I would hope that as a citizen I could at least receive benefits equal to the aliens who are here illegally. When will tax dollars work for me and my family? We cannot afford to support the illegal aliens on our income.”
