I am Pro-woman, Pro-family and Pro-life.
I have been endorsed for the General Election by Kansans For Life.
I will support The Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act (CARA) legislation. CARA would have given additional protections for women who may be coerced into an abortion, enhanced reporting requirements to make sure Kansas abortion laws are being followed and strengthened penalties for those who would flaunt the law.
I support "Right of Conscience" laws, which protect health care providers who object to participating in controversial procedures or services such as abortion, artificial birth control or dispensation of abortion producing drugs, such as RU486.
I support legislation that would withhold taxpayer money from going to Planned Parenthood, a major provider of abortion.
I am opposed to all Human Cloning, Sometimes referred to as "Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer", therapeutic or reproductive.
The discovery of iPS Cell (induced Pluripotent Stem Cell) has eliminated any need for Cloning or embryonic stem cell research. Research scientist, Shinya Yamanaka, has discovered that by adding genes to a skin cell he can cause that cell to revert back to its undifferentiated state. By adding four genes, the skin cell switches back to its pluripotent state, becoming virtually identical to a cell derived from a human embryo. The research involving iPS Cells is ethical because no human egg is needed and no human embryo is created or destroyed. iPS Cells have been successful in lab tests where embryonic stem cells have failed. After 25 years of embryonic stem cell research there have been NO applicable treatments or cures. The future of stem cell research lies with adult stem cells and iPS Cells. I will support continued funding for Adult Stem Cell Research at Kansas State University. This ethical form of research has produced many therapies and cures.
